Palazzo Vecchio Secret Passages (Florence) – Walk through the hidden passageways and secret rooms of the Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza Signoria, Florence, used as escape routes and private spaces for sovereigns, the rich and powerful during the Renaissance and medieval times.
Leonardo da Vinci Museum (Vinci) – Book a guided visit and explore the machinery, clocks and anatomy studies of the celebrated artist, scientific genius and engineer of the Renaissance through workshops and educational activities. You can also take a beautiful walk through the surrounding countryside on the Strada Verde, Green Road that connects Anchiano, Leonardo’s birthplace and the lovely town of Vinci.
Towers to Climb – Giotto’s Bell Tower, next to the Duomo, Florence’s Cathedral and Palazzo Vecchio’s Torre di Arnolfo, in Piazza Signoria, offer magnificent views of the city and beyond. The Torre del Mangia towers 102 meters over Siena’s Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse races take place in July and August. In San Gimignano, climb the 14th century Torre Grossa and, of course, the most the most famous tower in the world, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Pisa’s renowned Piazza dei Miracoli. Entrance is limited but this location merits a visit regardless.
Walls to Walk & Ride – Take a picnic and enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride around the wall that surrounds the magical medieval city of Lucca or walk the walls in Pisa and get a unique perspective on the city and Piazza dei Miracoli. It’s a beautiful and relaxing walk that covers a distance of about 3km all the way to down the river.
Pizza & Gelato Classes – There are classes available in the heart of Florence and in the countryside where even the youngest of travellers can apron-up to make traditional pizza from start to finish while learning about variations among regions and choosing the best ingredients for everybody’s favourite food! Follow up with a lesson in the art of gelato preparation and sample flavours that will satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth!
