Description
Lake Bilancino, is located in the Mugello region, just north of Florence, and is the largest manmade fresh water lake in Italy. Its 5 square kilometres of surface area is surrounded by beaches, biking and hiking trails, parks, picnic areas and offers an abundance of natural beauty. People may enjoy a lazy afternoon on one of the pebbly beaches or choose to do a water sport like canoeing, sail and paddle boating, kayaking or windsurfing.
The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) has recognized the Galliano Oasis – 25 hectares of forests, meadows and waterfront of the lake – as a Natural Protected Area of Local Interest. Swans, storks, ospreys, flamingo and a vast variety of migratory birds are protected in this sanctuary.
